Girls is a two-time Golden Globe Award-winning American dramedy television series that airs on the HBO channel in the United States. The series was created by Lena Dunham who also stars in it. Season 1 of Girls premiered on HBO on April 15, 2012. The following three seasons all aired in winter TV schedule.
Girls is a comedy-drama series that revolves around a group of girlfriends in their twenties who are living in New York City. The idea for the series and many features of the main characters were inspired by real life of Lena Dunham herself.
Accolades and renewal for 6th and final season
Season 5 of Girls came out in the US on the HBO network on February 21, 2016 and consisted of 10 episodes with the final episode having been broadcast on April 17th. Since the premiere of the first season of Girls, the series has gotten very positive response. The show has garnered a number of award nominations and in 2013 won two Golden Globes. Critics praise the show for a much more realistic portrayal of young women as compared to the established mainstream media cliché. Viewers find the series refreshing and realistic.
