Series background and plot
Midsomer Murders is a long-running, critically acclaimed and award-winning British mystery and crime television drama series from the production company Bentley Productions which is at the moment broadcasting its eighteenth series in Great Britain. A staple of nighttime programming on the ITV channel, the crime drama is based on the series of novels “Chief Inspector Barnaby” written by Caroline Graham. The series debuted in the UK back in 1997, and the most recent chapter came out on January 19, 2016.
The crime drama series centers on DCI Barnaby (portrayed by Neil Dudgeon) as he investigates crimes and murders in beautiful English countryside. When the series debuted almost 10 years ago, the main character was Tom Barnaby, who was played by John Nettles. Starting with series 14, Tom was replaced by his cousin, John.
Most recent installment and ratings
Series 18 of Midsomer Murders premiered in the UK on the ITV network on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 and it included six episodes, just like the previous installments. There is a reason the program has been around for such a long time – it has enjoyed stable viewer ratings, and also built quite a fan base since its 1997 debut. The premiere episode of series 18 attracted more than 6.5 million viewers, and although it is a slight decline when compared to the previous chapter, the viewership is one of the highest for scripted ITV programs. We are confident that it is good enough to secure another renewal.
