Galavant season 3 has been canceled
We monitor the news to keep you updated on the release date of Galavant season 3. Unfortunately, ABC has decided not to renew the series for another season. The show has been canceled.
Basic info and storyline
Galavant is a critically acclaimed American fantasy and adventure musical television series that is at the moment airing its second season on the ABC channel in the United States. The highly-rated series comes from the creator of The Neighbors, Tangled and Crazy, Stupid, Love. A co-production between ABC Studios and Rhode Island Ave. Productions, the fantasy musical is directed by Chris Koch and John Fortenberry. The series was first released in the US on January 4, 2015.
The plot of this fairy-tale series for adults centers on the adventures of the titular character who is on the mission to defeat King Richard and restore his good reputation. The show stars Joshua Sasse, Timothy Omundson, Vinnie Jones, Mallory Jansen and others.
Ratings, reviews and possible renewal
Season 2 of Galavant came out on the ABC channel in the US on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT and for now it is expected to include ten sixty-minute episodes. The fairy-tale themed show did very well during its debut run: having attracted almost 7.5 million viewers to its premiere episode, it ended up with an average a little over 5 million total viewers. In the current cycle, the show has seen a significant dip in the ratings when the premiere drew only 3.2 million viewers. With that said, the reviews remain very positive, especially from people who appreciate the musical genre. The show has also gotten some love from the critics and landed a few nominations from Online Film & Television Association. We’ll continue to monitor the ratings of the current chapter, but unless they drastically improve, we doubt that the musical series will get picked up for another run. UPDATED May 13, 2016: The critically acclaimed, charming and wildly silly show Galavant did not manage to last beyond two seasons. It was a part of an unusually long list of shows canceled by ABC today. Even though the series has its share of avid fans, the ratings are what let it down. From the series premiere audience of 7.4 million viewers to barely over two million viewers for the end of the second season – this decline was steeper than could agree with the network's plans. Farewell, Galavant, it was fun watching.
