A production of Kinetic Content, the reality series is exec produced by Chris Coelen and Gena McCarthy. The debut season of this controversial program was first released in the US on July 8, 2014. The reality series uses experts from various fields to create what they believe perfectly matched couples, which meet fir the first time when they are at the altar to get officially married. The show also has a follow-up series that chronicles the lives of the couples as newlyweds for one year. It’s titled ‘Married at First Sight: The First Year.’
Viewer reception and chances of renewal
Season 3 of Married at First Sight came out in the US on the FYI channel on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT with an extended two-hour and fifteen premiere episode. The current cycle of the show will include 13 episodes, and the finale episode will also be a special, extended version. The show has changed geography for its current run: while the previous 2 cycles picked couples from the New York area, the current one follows couples residing in and around Atlanta, Georgia. Again, the team of seasoned consultants will be back to carefully select and match the couples. This is one of the most controversial shows on television today. It has drawn a lot of criticism and, perhaps, that is exactly what makes it so popular. It is bold and definitely pushes the envelope. To be fair, the creative team has positioned the show from the very beginning as a social experiment, and maybe it should be regarded as such. The reviews are mixed, as expected, but the ratings paint a better picture – the program is one of the top-performing shows on the network today. More than likely we’ll see a couple more runs of the show.
