Basic info and storyline
Superstore is the newest addition to the extensive NBC’s line-up of original comedy shows that is at the moment being broadcast in the United States. The new sitcom comes from the award-winning writer and producer who had previously worked on such successful television projects as The Office and Grounded for Life. A collaborative effort between The District, Spitzer Holding Company and Universal Television, the debut season of the new comedy series came out in the US on November 30, 2015.
The plot of the new sitcom is set in a typical American giant store, similar to Walmart or Target and follows the daily life of its employees. The series stars America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, and others.
Current season, reviews and renewal
Season 1 of Superstore was released in the US on the NBC channel on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT and at the moment it is expected to contain eleven thirty-minute episodes, including the pilot episode. The series premiere attracted a sizeable audience of almost 7.3 million viewers. After that, as it typically happens, the ratings went down a little, but still remained at a respectable level of around 5.5 million viewers. The reviews are also above average so far, but there has been some criticism that the writing is not good enough for the level of cast the show has. Still, with The Office and Parks and Recreation being missed by so many, the new sitcom might just take their coveted spots for bringing viewers an exaggerated and satirical look at the modern American culture.
UPDATED February 24, 2016: With a current average total viewership of more than 7 million viewers per episode, strong feedback from viewers and critics and a great cast, we knew it was just a matter of time before the NBC network ordered more episodes of their freshman comedy series Superstore. Yesterday, the network made an official announcement that the highly-rated sitcom has been renewed for a second season. Starring America Ferrera, the new sitcom has become the best performing new comedy launch for NBC in more than two years and it is currently ranking as a third freshman comedy series among all basic cable series.
