Ongoing season and renewal predictions

Season 2 of Jane the Virgin premiered on The CW channel in the US on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT and for now it is expected to consist of 22 one-hour episodes. The series has received stellar reviews in its debut season and averaged 1.2 million viewers per episode. In the current season, after having aired four episodes, the series is averaging almost one million viewers, which is an 18% decline. Let’s see how the ratings develop as the 22-episode season progresses. The show has also garnered wide critical acclaim. It has been nominated for many different awards, including Teen Choice Award, Critics' Choice Award and Imagen Award. In 2015 Gina Rodriguez won her first ever Golden Globe Award in the category Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy. Such an impressive list of accolades is sure to motivate the network to renew the show for at least one more run. Latest developments

UPDATED December 11, 2015: After an eighth episode, which is scheduled to be broadcast on The CW on Monday, December 14, 2015, like most primetime series, Jane the Virgin will take a month long Christmas break. The romantic dramedy series will return to the small screen with all new episodes on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, right after the new episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The current season is expected to contain 22 episodes altogether. For now, the dramedy series is averaging a little over one million viewers, which is a 15% decline when compared to the previous run. It is unclear whether such ratings will be enough for the network to renew the show for another season. Stay tuned on the latest developments with the series.

UPDATED March 13, 2016: In a move sincerely welcomed by series creators and showrunners, The CW network has made a bulk renewal announcement for all of its presently broadcast original scripted series (with the exception of those that haven't yet premiered this season). Even though Jane the Virgin has received much praise from the critics as well as the general public, its ratings dropped 17% in the current second season when compared to the debut cycle, and a renewal decision might have gone either way. As of now, Jane the Virgin is indeed renewed for a third season, as we are happy to inform the fans of the show.

UPDATED September 5, 2016: The CW network’s fall programming slate has been solidified, and while the bulk of the schedule features superhero-themed action dramas, there are a few exceptions that include both the returning favorites and new shows. A critically-praised romantic drama Jane the Virgin is scheduled to hit the small screen in the US on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT. The biggest question the fans of the series have for the upcoming new episodes is whether Michael is alive after getting shot by Susanna.
