About the series

Arrow is a critically acclaimed and award-winning American action, adventure, mystery and sci-fi drama television series that is currently airing on The CW channel in the United States. The hit superhero series was created by Marc Guggenheim, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg based on the characters from DC Comics. Guggenheim, Berlanti and Kreisberg also serve as executive producers on the show together with Wendy Mericle, David Nutter, Jake Coburn, Drew Z. Greenberg and Melissa Kellner Berman. The TV show is produced for The CW by Bonanza Productions, Berlanti Productions, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. Season 1 of the superhero series debuted on The CW channel on October 10, 2012.

The storyline revolves around Oliver Queen (played by Stephen Amell) who spent 5 years on an island following a shipwreck. He eventually comes back home a changed man and focuses on fighting injustice. The series also stars David Ramsey, Katie Cassidy, Willa Holland, Emily Bett Rickards, Paul Blackthorne, John Barrowman and Manu Bennett.

Critical response and renewal hopes

Season 4 of Arrow premiered on The CW channel in the US on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT and it is set to consist of 23 one-hour episodes. From its debut back in 2012 the series has received exceptionally positive reviews and has also garnered a wide critical acclaim, having been nominated for a variety of awards. The show has also become the highest-rated show for The CW, having surpassed even The Vampire Diaries. In season 3, the series has averaged 2.76 million viewers per episode, which was an impressive 6% growth when compared to the previous chapter. In the current season, to date, after having aired five episodes, the show is averaging 2.6 million, which is very satisfactory. More than likely the series will get greenlit for another run. UPDATED December 11, 2015: The CW channel has finally revealed its winter 2016 release scheduled for new, but mostly returning series. After its mid-season finale was broadcast on December 9, 2015, the next episode of the current season of Arrow is scheduled to air on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT, followed by the new episode of Supernatural. The series is currently averaging almost 2.7 million viewers per episode, which is on par with the previous run, so although the network has not yet officially greenlit it for another cycle, it is pretty much in the bag. UPDATED March 13, 2016: In a rarely seen move that shows determination and confidence in its programming decisions, on March 11, 2016 The CW network has announced a lump renewal of its 11 original scripted series presently on the air, excluding only those shows that haven't yet been broadcast this season. Arrow has also been renewed for a fifth season alongside others. The current season is averaging approximately 2.7 million viewers, down a mere 3% from the previous cycle. UPDATED September 4, 2016: The CW network’s autumn programming slate looks very exciting and action-packed.
