About the show

Expedition Unknown is an American travel and adventure reality and documentary television series that is currently airing on the Travel Channel in the United States. The series was created, executive produced by Josh Gates who is a passionate explorer, a paranormal researcher and has a degree in archaeology from Tufts University. Josh also hosts the program. The TV show is produced for Travel Channel by Ping Pong Productions. Season 1 of the reality series debuted on the Travel Channel on January 8, 2015 and consisted of twelve episodes.

In each episode of this exciting and adventurous docu-series, host Josh Gates travels to different destinations all around the world to investigate the most popular legends and mysteries.

Season 2 of Expedition Unknown premiered on the Travel Channel in the US on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 and it is set to have twenty one-hour episodes. In the premiere episode, Josh Gates goes to England, Wales, and Scotland in hopes to find the facts and separate them from the myths about legendary King Arthur. In other episodes, Josh will also investigate Christopher Columbus by travelling to Haiti, Dominican Republic and Spain, the tomb of Genghis Khan’s in Mongolia, the truth behind real-life vampires in Bulgaria and Romania, search for stolen Nazi treasures in Germany and Austria, and look for the lost city of the Kalahari in Botswana, Africa. UPDATED March 26, 2016: Just two days after the most recent installment of the Travel Channel’s sophomore travel and adventure television series Expedition Unknown concluded in the US on March 23rd, the network officially announced the renewal of the reality series for another round. The positive decision on the future of the show was motivated by its very impressive performance in the ratings department – in its second season the series has delivered an average viewership of almost 5.5 million. Explorer Josh Gates will be back to star in the series and new episodes are slated to hit the small screen later this year. UPDATED May 28, 2016: Travel Channel has finally unveiled the premiere date for a highly-anticipated third installment of their hit real life TV show Expedition Unknown. Josh Gates will be back on the small screens in the US as he takes viewers around the globe in his quest to explore history’s most popular mysteries. A third chapter of his travels is scheduled to start airing on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 9/8c. Josh will begin his quest in Mexico from where he will travel to Ecuador to investigate the myth behind the mummy of the last Inca king, Atahualpa.
