Basic info and storyline
iZombie is a critically acclaimed American comedy, horror, sci-fi and crime drama television series that is currently airing on The CW channel in the United States. The popular TV series was created by Diane Ruggiero-Wright and Rob Thomas based on the eponymous comic book series written by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred and published by DC Comics. Ruggiero-Wright and Thomas also executive produced the series together with Dan Etheridge and Danielle Stokdyk. The comedy-drama show is produced for The CW by Spondoolie Productions, Vertigo (DC Entertainment) and Warner Bros. Television. Season 1 of the series debuted on The CW channel on March 17, 2015 and consisted of 13 episodes.
The storyline of the show revolves around a talented medical resident living in Seattle, Liv Moore (played by Rose McIver), who one day is turned into a zombie. She takes a job at a morgue to satisfy her newly gained appetite for brains. The series also stars Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley and David Anders.
Ongoing season, reviews and ratings
Season 2 of iZombie premiered on The CW channel in the US on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT and for now it is set to consist of 13 episodes. After a successful debut in spring of 2015, the show has garnered not only positive reviews from the audience but also critical acclaim. It was nominated for 2015 Teen Choice Awards in the category Choice TV: Breakout Show and won 2015 mtvU Fandom Awards in the category Best New Fandom of the Year. In its debut season, the comedy-drama series has averaged 1.76 million viewers per episode. Current episodes are not doing as well, averaging 1.39 million viewers, which is a rather significant decline of 20%. Such a big drop in ratings could easily jeopardize the future of the show. UPDATED December 11, 2015: After a month-long Christmas break, the award-winning iZombie is scheduled to return to the CW channel with all new second season episodes on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT. Nine episodes of the current chapter have already been aired, which means after the show returns in January there will be just four more episodes to watch. It is still unclear what the network will decide to do with the series, as at the moment the ratings are a little bit disappointing, averaging just slightly below 1.4 million viewers per episode, which is 20% below the numbers from last year. Stay tuned for the latest developments on the series.
UPDATED March 13, 2016: Following in the footsteps of the ABC network that has made a similar move just last week, on March 11, 2016 The CW announced an early renewal for its 11 original scripted series that are currently on the air. The acclaimed sci-fi and horror series iZombie was on the renewal list and is officially picked up for a third installment. The series' viewership, although still a decent 1.37 million viewers per episode, is currently 20% lower than the numbers that the freshman season delivered, so the early renewal must take a load off the producers' shoulders.
