About the show
The Affair is a critically acclaimed American psychological drama television series that is currently airing on the Showtime channel in the United States. The popular drama series was created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi who also both serve as executive producers on the show alongside Jeffrey Reiner, Eric Overmyer and Anya Epstein. Season 1 of The Affair debuted on the Showtime channel on October 12, 2014.
Season 2 of The Affair premiered on the Showtime channel in the US on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT and for now it is set to consist of 12 one-hour episodes. If the story of season 1 was shown from the perspective of two people – Noah (Dominic West) and Alison (Ruth Wilson) – who were having an affair, in season 2 the producers decided to include also the perspectives of their former spouses – Helen (Maura Tierney) and Cole (Joshua Jackson) – because the affair, after all, has destroyed two marriages.
Season 1 of The Affair did not become a ratings hit, having averaged just 0.72 million viewers per episodes, but the series did become critics’ darling and was nominated for several awards. Ruth Wilson won 2015 Golden Globe Award as Best Actress – Television Series Drama, and the same year the series won a Golden Globe as Best Television Series – Drama. In the current season 2, after 4 episodes, The Affair is averaging 0.72 million viewers, which is on par with the previous season.
