Viewer reception and chances of renewal
Season 3 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered on the ABC channel in the US on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT. The action and adventure series did very well in the ratings department in its debut season, having averaged 6.86 million viewers per episode. Although the ratings declined significantly during a second season – season 2 averaged only 4.47 million viewers, which was a 34% drop when compared season-to-season – ABC still decided to renew. To date, after just four episodes in season 3, the show is averaging 4.2 million viewers. This might still be enough for ABC to greenlight Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for another run, because the series has garnered a wide critical acclaim and has been nominated and won a number of awards.
