UPDATED May 13, 2016: The season 4 finale of Nashville on May 25, 2016 will serve as the series finale as well, as the series has been officially canceled by ABC today in the wake of the declining ratings. The country music-themed soap has amassed a large number of fans over the course of its run, but apparently not a large enough number to warrant a renewal for yet another season. Series' showrunner Dee Johnson would have stepped from the position in any case, perhaps this also tipped the scales toward cancelation.
UPDATED June 10, 2016: Miracles do happen! A new reincarnation awaits Nashville, the hit country music drama series that was canceled by ABC earlier this year. CMT cable network has picked it up for a fifth season, tentatively set to contain 22 episode, which is in line with previous season orders. The deal came after weeks of negotiations between the parties and includes Hulu's continued involvement with making the series available to the viewers on the day after the broadcast, just as it did when Nashville aired on ABC. No further details have been revealed, so let's just savor the good news, and stay tuned for further announcements.
