Storyline and cast
The Middle is a popular American situational comedy series that is currently airing on the ABC channel in the United States. The Middle was created by Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline who also both serve as executive producers on the show. The sitcom is produced for ABC by Werner Walian, Vijal Patel, Roy Brown and Robin Shorr. It is a co-production between Blackie and Blondie Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Season 1 of The Middle debuted on the ABC channel on September 30, 2009.
The storyline of The Middle is set in the small town in Southwest Indiana and revolves around the Heck family: Frankie, who is married to Mike and who have three children together – Sue, Axl and Brick. The Middle stars Patricia Heaton, Neil Flynn, Charlie McDermott, Eden Sher and Atticus Shaffer.
Ratings, reviews and possible renewal
Season 7 of The Middle premiered on the ABC channel in the US on Wednesday, September 25, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT. Since its launch in 2009, the sitcom remains a solid performer for ABC. In season 6, The Middle averaged 7.62 million viewers per episode, which was on par with the previous season. Currently, having aired just four episodes, The Middle is averaging 7.63 million viewers, which is a very impressive result. We can easily expect to hear the renewal news soon. UPDATED December 22, 2015: Episode 10 of the current season of The Middle was broadcast on December 9, 2015 and it was the show’s last episode this year before it has gone on a holiday hiatus. The remaining part of season seven is expected to being broadcast on the ABC channel on January 6, 2016. The network is yet to determine the fate of the sitcom, but the prospects are good considering its very stable viewership.
UPDATED March 4, 2016: The Emmy Award-nominated and Critics Choice Television Awards-winning popular comedy series The Middle has been granted an early renewal by the newly elected President of ABC Entertainment. In an unprecedented move, the network didn’t wait until May to determine the future of its ongoing series, and gave yesterday the greenlight to 15 of its best comedies, dramas and reality shows. Early or not, we have no doubt that the hit sitcom would have been picked up for another round either way, since in its current installment the show is averaging 7.5 million viewers per episode, which is on par with the previous chapter. UPDATED June 30, 2016: One of ABC's top-rated and fan favorite sitcom The Middle is scheduled to premiere on October 11, 2016 at 8pm. The program will occupy a new time slot, and become the flagship series of the network's Tuesday night comedy block, leading into the series premiere of American Housewife, which will then be followed by Fresh Off the Boat and The Real O'Neals. The Middle has barely lost any viewers between the last two completed seasons, and is likely to retain its audience in the upcoming installment.
