Suddenly Royal is a new American reality television series that is currently airing on the TLC channel in the United States. The new docu-series is produced for the network by MAK Pictures. A seven-episode season 1 of Suddenly Royal debuted on TLC on September 9, 2015.
Suddenly Royal follows the daily life of the Howe family that includes auto repair advisor David, his spouse Pam and their teenage daughter Grace. One day, their lives change forever as the patriarch of the family finds out online that while being a blue collar worker in his native United States, he is actually an heir to the throne of the British Isle of Man. This revelation takes the family on an exciting journey across the ocean to explore David’s ancestry and roots.
Debut season’s reviews
Season 1 of Suddenly Royal premiered on the TLC channel in the US on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 10/9c and it is set to consist of seven one-hour episodes. The reviews of the debut installment of this docu-series have been somewhat mixed but mostly positive with many viewers finding the characters endearing, sweet and funny to watch. The show currently holds an average score of 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb and with rather mid-level Nielsen ratings, it is unclear whether the new real life show has a chance to get greenlit for another round. UPDATED June 4, 2016: A 7-episode debut chapter of the TLC’s newest reality TV show Suddenly Royal concluded in the US in October of 2015 and only now the network has finally made a decision on the fate of the series. Unfortunately, the real life series is getting cancelled after just one installment. The cancellation news was also confirmed by the star of the docu-series David Drew Howe in a recent interview. Most likely, the show got axed due to the disappointing ratings.
