The Carmichael Show is a new American situational comedy TV series that is currently being broadcast on the NBC channel in the United States. A co-production between 20th Century Fox Television and Universal Television, the sitcom is executive produced by Nick Stoller and Ravi Nandan. The first season of the sophomore comedy was released on NBC in the US on August 20, 2015.
Created by director Scott Ellis, the sitcom The Carmichael Show is a family show, the plot of which is built around the main character, a popular comedian Jerrod Carmichael. The life of a typical American family is like a volcano that is ready to erupt every second. A religious mama trying to encourage families to order, a friend-therapist trying to brainwash you, and other relatives who keep throwing one surprise after another – the audience will gradually learn all the secrets of the family, encompassing the most striking features of typical Americans.
Critical response and renewal hopes
Season 1 of The Carmichael Show premiered on the NBC channel in the US with two back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT. The premiere episode drew in 4.8 million total viewers, making it the most-watched summer-comedy debut on the Big 4 since 2007. The freshman sitcom has just wrapped up its successful season 1 on September 9, 2015. The Carmichael Show debuted as the most watched summer comedy debut since 2007 with 4.8 million viewers and held steady throughout the season averaging 4.7 million total viewers per episode. Another freshman NBC’s sitcom, Mr. Robinson, didn’t get as lucky and was just canceled after one season.
UPDATED January 23, 2016: NBC’s summer hit new comedy series, The Carmichael Show, is scheduled to return to the small screen soon with all new episodes. A preview episode of the second season will be broadcast on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 10:30pm ET/PT, and the official premiere of the new chapter will kick off on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT with two back-to-back new episodes.
