About the show
Difficult People is a new American comedy series that is currently available on the online media streaming platform Hulu in the United States. Originally, the show was developed for USA Network, but after the network decided to pull away from comedy programming, Difficult People got a straight to series order by Hulu. The new comedy series is produced by 3 Arts Entertainment, Marobru and Universal Cable Productions. It is executive produced by Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation) and Dave Becky (Louie). The show comes from Julie Klausner (Billy on the Street) who stars alongside Emmy(R)-nominated Billy on the Street host Billy Eichner. Season 1 of Difficult People premiered on Hulu on August 5, 2015.
The storyline revolves around Julie and Billy, two 30-something aspiring comics living and working in New York City who hate everyone but each other. While their friends and move on to find success and love, they continue to struggle with careers and relationships, getting more bitter by the day. The series stars Julie Klausner as Julie Kessler, an aspiring comedienne; Billy Eichner as Billy Epstein, Julie's best friend; James Urbaniak as Arthur Tack, Julie's boyfriend; and Andrea Martin as Marilyn Kessler, Julie's mother.

UPDATED August 28, 2015: Hulu has just officially announced the renewal of its original comedy series Difficult People for a second season. Season 2 of Difficult People, starring Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner, will consist of 10 episodes. The renewal of this high-profile title for Hulu plays well into the streaming service’s current strategy to drive forward with original series. The original series line-up also includes Jason Katims drama The Way and Jason Reitman’s comedy Casual. UPDATED April 5, 2016: Following a storm of upfront presentations held by many cable networks last week, the American streaming service Hulu announced yesterday the release dates for a few of its original television series, including Casual and East Los High. A second installment of the comedy series about two aspiring comedians, Difficult People is expected to be made available online in the US on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. A 10-episode sophomore season will premiere with two back-to-back episodes. Julie Klausner, the creator of the web series and Billy Eichner will reprise their main roles on the show.
