About the show

The Strain is an American vampire and horror drama television series that is currently airing on the FX channel in the US. The dramatic TV series is based on the eponymous best-selling vampire novels by Oscar nominee Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan who both serve as executive producers alongside Carlton Cuse, Gary Ungar, J. Miles Dale, David Weddle, Bradley Thompson and Regina Corrado. The Strain is co-produced by FX Productions, Carlton Cuse Productions and Double Dare You. Season 1 of The Strain premiered on FX on July 13, 2014.

The Strain follows a disease control team that is called in to investigate when a plane lands in New York with 200 dead bodies on board. They soon discover that a viral outbreak has begun that could overtake humanity. The main cast includes Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Kevin Durand, Mía Maestro, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Miguel Gomez, Natalie Brown, Jack Kesy, Sean Astin, and Robert Maillet.

On August 19, 2014, The Strain was renewed for a second season. The renewal came as no surprise: The Strain recorded the most-watched series premiere in FX history with 2.98 million viewers. Overall, season 1 of The Strain averaged 2.21 million viewers per episode. Season 2 of The Strain premiered on the FX channel in the US on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT and it is set to consist of 13 episodes. UPDATED August 8, 2015: Just four episodes into its second season, The Strain has already secured another season. On August 7, the FX officially renewed The Strain for season 3. Even though the season two ratings for The Strain are down by more than 30% when compared to last year (season 2 is currently averaging 1.53 million total viewers per episode), it is still one of FX’s highest-rated shows. So, the renewal news came as no surprise. The Strain will return for a third season next summer. UPDATED May 13, 2016: Despite a slight decline in the ratings last year, The Strain was given another chance and renewed for one more round. At last, the FX network has scheduled the premiere date for a new installment. A third season of the horror thriller drama series will contain 10 episodes and it is expected to hit the small screen in the US on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT. I can see you lucky people have already seen the start of the third series in the US. Does anyone know when we will get it on English TV please?
