Storyline and cast

Ballers is a new American sports drama television series that is currently airing on the HBO channel in the United States. Created by Stephen Levinson (Entourage, Boardwalk Empire , In Treatment) and executive produced by Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Peter Berg, Evan Reilly, Rob Weiss, Julian Farino and Denis Biggs, the new HBO series explores the whirlwind lifestyle and real-life problems of a group of former and current football players. Season 1 of Ballers premiered on HBO on June 21, 2015.

The storyline of Ballers revolves around former football superstar Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) who re-invented himself as a financial adviser in Miami, taking on young phenoms and veteran superstars alike. Spencer doesn’t simply manage his clients’ money – he also helps them navigate the many pitfalls that come with life in the spotlight. Ballers also stars Rob Corrdry, Omar Benson Miller, John David Washington, Donovan W. Carter, Troy Garity, Jazmyn Simon, London Brown, and Arielle Kebbel.

Season 1 of Ballers premiered on the HBO channel in the US on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 10PM ET and it is set to consist of ten episodes. UPDATED July 10, 2015: After airing just three episodes of the freshman series, HBO officially renewed Ballers for a second season. The first episode of Ballers has already gathered 8.9 million viewers across HBO’s branded platforms, making it HBO’s most watched first episode of a half-hour series since 2009. The series has also garnered raving reviews describing it as funny and fast-moving, and praising Dwayne Johnson for his magnetic and brilliant performance.

UPDATED March 1, 2015: It has been a while since the HBO network announced the renewal of the new sports dramedy TV series Ballers for a second round with no premiere date in sight. Although the exact release date is yet to be specified, the network did unveil the official trailer for new episodes and also narrowed down the expected release to the summer of 2016. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be back to reprise his role as Spencer Strasmore. A highly-anticipated third installment of the critically-acclaimed sports dramedy Ballers is scheduled to hit the small screen in the US on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT.
