About the show
Murder in the First is an American crime drama television series that is currently airing on the TNT channel in the United States. The series was created by Steven Bochco and Eric Lodal, who also serve as executive producers. It is produced by TNT Original Productions. Season 1 of Murder in the First premiered on TNT on June 9, 2014.
On September 12, 2014, TNT officially renewed Murder in the First for a second season. What’s interesting is that the ratings for the first season of the series were rather mediocre, averaging 2.84 million total viewers per episode. Other shows with similar ratings were cancelled but TNT still decided to renew their detective drama series. Season 2 of Murder in the First premiered on the TNT channel in the US on June 8, 2015 and it is set to consist of 10 episodes. In season two, Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson are back as Bay Area detectives English and Mulligan, who immediately stumble upon a new case: two teenagers shoot up a school bus, with one taking flight and triggering a massive manhunt, as questions of what motivated the pair slowly come into focus. So far, after two episodes, the show is averaging 2.24 million total viewers per episode, which is already slightly lower than its season 1 averages. It will be interesting to see how the ratings change as the season progresses and how they will affect TNT’s decision to renew the show for a third season.
