Basic info and plot
Royal Pains is an American medical comedy and drama television series that is currently airing on USA Network in the United States. The series was created by Andrew Lenchewski and John P. Rogers who also serve as executive producers. Royal Pains is produced by 34 Films, Prospect Park Entertainment, Universal Cable Productions and Open 4 Business Productions, and executive produced by Carol Flint, Constance M. Burge, Paul Frank, Rich Frank, Jeff Kwatinetz and Michael Rauch. Season 1 of Royal Pains premiered on June 4, 2009.
Royal Pains follows the continuing adventures of a former ER doctor (Mark Feuerstein) from New York who runs a concierge doctor business in The Hamptons with his younger brother (Paulo Costanzo). The show also stars Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, and Ben Shenkman.
On November 5, 2014, USA Network officially renewed their summer medical drama for seasons 7 and 8. The news came as a surprise, considering that in season six Royal Pains was way down in the ratings: it averaged 2.02 million viewers per episode, which was down 43% as compared to season five. Still, with no success in launching new shows and White Collar ending, the renewal of Royal Pains made sense. Season 7 of Royal Pains was released on June 2, 2015. Unlike previous seasons that consisted of 13 episodes each, seasons 7 and 8 will only have 8 episodes per season. The premiere episode of season 7 drew in 1.7 million viewers and if this downward trend with the ratings continues, it seems very likely that Royal Pains will be ending with season eight.
UPDATED March 11, 2016: The good news is that the USA network has finally scheduled the premiere date for a new installment of Royal Pains. The disappointing news is that an 8-part eighth season of the ASCAP Award-winning dramedy series that will hit the small screen in the US on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT will also be the final chapter for the show. The medical and romantic comedy-drama series has seen a significant 28% drop in the ratings last year, so the cancellation rumors have been swirling around for a while now. The producers have promised a lot of surprises in new episodes, including one episode filmed in Hong Kong, plenty of guest stars and a musical installment.
