About the show
American Ninja Warrior is an American sports game show that is currently airing on NBC in the US. The sports entertainment competition is a spin-off of the Japanese game show series Sasuke. American Ninja Warrior is executive produced by Viki Cacciatore (Survivor, Running Wild with Bear Grylls), Holly Wofford (Supernanny, Launch My Line), Haylee Vance (The Collective, Big Brother), Kent Weed (Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares) and Anthony Storm (Celebrity Crime Files, Chainsaw Gang). Season 1 of American Ninja Warrior premiered on the G4 cable channel (now Esquire Network) on December 12, 2009 in the US and currently airs in partnership between Esquire and NBC.
American Ninja Warrior succeeded G4's (now Esquire Network) American Ninja Challenge as the qualifying route for Americans to compete at "Mount Midoriyama". Beginning with the fourth season in 2012, regional finalists and wild card competitors competed on a nearly identical Mount Midoriyama course in Las Vegas, Nevada, rather than traveling to Japan to compete on Sasuke. Hosted by Matt Iseman, Akbar Gbajabiamila, and Kristine Leahy, American Ninja Warrior follows competitors as they try to conquer a series of challenging obstacle courses in both city qualifying and city finals rounds across the US. As of September 15, 2014, no one has won the grand prize yet. In fact, through six seasons of the show, no one has advanced past the 3rd of 4 stages in the final round. Even though the number of competitors trying out has increased, producers have added more difficult obstacles, making it virtually impossible for someone to win the grand prize which is currently $1,000,000.
Season 7 of American Ninja Warrior premiered on NBC in the US on May 25, 2015. The two-hour season premiere became the #1 show of the night with almost 6 million total viewers. Overall, last season the ratings grew on NBC. At this point, there is little to no doubt that the show will get renewed for an eighth season.
