Summary and storyline
Motive is a Canadian police procedural drama television series that is currently airing on the CTV channel in Canada. Motive was created by Daniel Cerone (Constantine, The Mentalist, Dexter) and developed by Rob Merilees (Just Friends, Brain on Fire) and Rob LaBelle (The Dark Corner, Mental), who also all serve as executive producers along with Erin Haskett, James Thorpe, Lindsay Macadam and Louise Clark. Season 1 of Motive premiered on CTV on February 3, 2013.
Motive is a police procedural drama series that follows the investigations of single mother Detective Angie Flynn (Kristin Lehman). The series is unconventional: ach episode begins by revealing the killer and the victim, and the rest of the episode shows the ongoing investigation and the killer's efforts to cover up the crime. Motive also stars Louis Ferreira, Brendan Penny, Lauren Holly, Cameron Bright, Roger Cross, Valerie Tian and Warren Christie.
On May 21, 2014, CTV ordered a third season of Motive, which premiered on March 8, 2015 and will consist of 13 episodes, with the season finale scheduled to air on June 7, 2015. Motive also airs in the US: it premiered on ABC on May 20, 2013, as part of their summer 2013 schedule, and season 2 began airing on ABC on May 21, 2014. The ratings in Canada have been exceptionally stable over the last three seasons, and even though CTV is yet to confirm the renewal of a fourth season, we believe it is just a matter of time. UPDATED June 3, 2015: Great news! On June 1, 2015, Canada’s CTV channel officially renewed their detective drama series Motive for season 4. A fourth season of police procedural drama series will consist of thirteen episodes, and production is set to begin in Vancouver this fall. Unfortunately for the American fans of the series, ABC has announced that it will not be picking up the drama after three seasons.
UPDATED February 13, 2016: The good news is that the CTV channel has finally revealed the release date for new episodes of Motive. A fourth season is scheduled to premiere in Canada on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. The bad news is that this will, unfortunately, be the final chapter for the crime procedural drama. The fact that the American network ABC pulled the series from its programming after three seasons most likely has played into the show’s demise. To give fans a sense of closure, the creative team has promised a “killer ending.” Sign up for our notifications and we will send you an automated reminder of the release date of Motive season 4 one day before the premiere.
