About the series
The Profit is an American reality television series that is currently airing on the CNBC channel in the United States. The reality show is produced by Machete Productions (Dirty Soap) and executive produced by Amber Mazzola (The Millionaire Matchmaker, Tori & Dean: Storibook Weddings, Pretty Wild) and Curnal Achilles Aulisio (Treasure Detectives, Buying for Billionaires). Season 1 of The Profit premiered on the CNBC channel on July 30, 2013 and consisted of six episodes. The show is currently in its third season.
The Profit stars Marcus Lemonis who in real life is running a multi-billion dollar company, Camping World. In the past 10 years, he’s successfully turned around over 100 companies. In each episode of the show he offers struggling small businesses that are desperate for cash capital investment and his expertise in exchange for an ownership stake in the company.
Critical response and renewal hopes
Season 2 of The Profit premiered on February 25, 2014 and its second part returned in October of 2014, bringing the total episode count of a second season to 18. A second season of the show was a ratings hit for the CNBC channel – ratings went up to +115% from first season – and the show was renewed for a third run. Season 3 of The Profit debuted on the CNBC channel in the US on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. The premiere episode featured Mike and Scott Ciprari, who started SJC Drums and quickly transformed it into a million-dollar company, but sibling rivalry forced Scott out of the company, leaving Mike in charge and SJC in free fall. There is a very good chance that the show will get renewed for a fourth season, but CNBC has not yet made any statements in that regard.
