Basic info and cast
Wentworth is an internationally popular Australian crime drama television series that is currently airing on the SoHo channel in Australia. The critically acclaimed series was developed by Lara Radulovich and David Hannam based on the original concept by Reg Watson who created a television series titled Prisoner. The new show is like a modern reinterpretation of Prisoner, which ran on Network Ten from 1979 to 1986. The debut chapter of the crime series came out in Australia on May 1, 2013. In December 2014, Netflix added series one and two to its streaming service for American audience.
The highly popular TV series delivers the viewers and inside look at the lives of the inhabitants of a women's prison from the inside. The plot introduces the rules and traditions that have developed over many years of prisoners being under arrest. In each series, the viewer can follow the fate of a specific character. For example, the protagonist of the next series can be either a prisoner or an employee serving as a prison warden. Discovering an unusual inner world hidden behind a high-fence prison, the viewer gradually comes to understand what events in the past lives of the characters have led them to these personal tragedies. The creators of the show are also trying to convey to the audience that everyone who resides or works in the prison has the role of a prisoner.
